Ok, So this recipe isn’t necessarily low in sugar, but you can adapt it to your preferences by using Honey, Maple Syrup, or Agave. I used brown Sugar because it is what we had.
4 Cups of Old Fashioned Oats
1 Large Apple
Brown Sugar to desired sweetness. ( we sometimes add sugar before we cook it and some times after we cook it, when you use juice to cook the oats you may need less sugar depending upon how sweet your juice is. I recommend adding sugar after you have cooked the oats.)
1/2 Tbs Cinnamon
Some fresh grated Nutmeg
6 Cups of Apple Juice
2 Cups Water
Combine above ingredients in a covered microwave safe container for 13:30 (adjust cooking time for your microwave, this is the time that works for our machine)
This recipe is a modification of the Steel Cut Oats recipe from America’s Test Kitchen. They did an amazing recipe for Apple Cinnamon Steel cut oats. So yummy!
