Trusting God is in Control

Trust God even in the Chaos

Can we trust that God is in control of our world? For example, when we watch the news, read a news article online or catch up with news on social media we can easily believe that our country is in chaos. The whole world seems to be on a razor’s edge at times. Because of the bombardment of bad news, we begin to fear that we will be consumed by the chaos. Can we trust that God is in control and sovereign over all this chaos?

Library Treasure

About a year ago I began reading a book called, Radical Son: A Generational Odyssey by David Horowitz. I had never heard anything about David Horowitz before, I merely found the book on a shelf of books for sale cheap at my local library. Before I found this particular book, I have had a growing love for biographies. When I found this book on the sale shelf at the library, I thought it a great deal for $0.10. That afternoon we came home from the library and I placed the book on my bedside table where it sat, for weeks. Finally, I started reading the book. I found myself putting it down to read something else, and then getting back to the book again. Even so, very soon I was surprised to find that the book was actually quite interesting.

Learning my History

In the book, David Horowitz gives the history of his family’s roots in Marxism and the left-wing politics. He tells of his parent’s beliefs, and how their beliefs were shaped by the fall of the USSR. Then he begins the narration of his own journey and political life as he works to navigate the beliefs of his parents, his own beliefs and the dangerous ground of the political left.

As I moved through the book, I read about things I had suspected within our political system, but everyone denied. Because of these thoughts, I wondered why more people did not know about this book. If people knew the things Mr. Horowitz was talking about were true, wouldn’t they respond with change? I kept thinking through these ideas and found myself caught up with the dangerous climate of our world. I found myself becoming fearful and worried about the ideas Mr. Horowitz discussed.

His ideas are important and I believe more people should read his book. In my opinion, many people in our country believe the lies that are being broadcast as truth constantly in every media outlet. We should inform ourselves, and learn about the truth. Yet, we shouldn’t live our lives in fear.

Remembering in Whom I trust.

One day, I was contemplating so many big ideas regarding our political system, and the world at large, I thought “God’s got all this.”. It was such a calming moment. There are so many horrible news reports that bombard us daily. Yet, we don’t need to fear these things. We can trust that God is in control.

The content of Radical Son is full of elements that can strike fear deep in our hearts. His book caused me to ask questions like: Are my kids safe? How are we going to face the dangers of our political environment? Should I be fearful for my family? In addition to the content in the book, so many images from the news began streaming through my head. All of these thoughts serve to fill my own heart with fear and concern about the safety of my family.

I don’t want this blog to become a political platform. My primary focus for this blog is encouragement and sharing my life’s journey. I am not really knowledgeable about political things anyway. What I do what to do is to point all of us, myself included, to Jesus. These days and times we live in can be terrifying. We watch the news reports filled to overflowing with horrible tragedies. Tragedies that rip our hearts out or fill us with fear for the lives of our children and families.

Resting in Trust

Even so, we can rest in trust. We can know in our hearts that God is faithful, and we can rest in the knowledge that he is in control. In Psalm 9:7-10 David reminds us:

The Lord reigns forever; he has established his throne for judgment. He rules the world in righteousness and judges the people with equity. The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. Those who know your name trust in you, for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you.

(Quote from NIV Beautiful Word Bible copyright @2015 Zondervan Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA)

I want to remind you that God has all this mess under his control. We can trust that he will work things out for his glory and purpose. I believe we should educate ourselves, and that we should be informed about the world and what is happening. Yet, I want to remind all of us, myself included, that we need to keep our eyes on Jesus, who is our ultimate hope and comfort in this dark and corrupt world.
