Over the past few months I have been very quiet here at the Laundry Pile. My health has been a big problem for me over the past several months. During this time I have had the privilege to learn more about a skill that I have wanted to know more about. While being sick there are few things I can do, but calligraphy practice is one of them.
Calligraphy is a beautiful art form that is making a reappearance more and more over the past several years. If you do a search on Instagram you will find several different types of beautiful. Types such as, Italic, Brush, copperplate, and Modern. I have been experimenting with several of these types of. I have been working to learn more about several of these styles, but one of my favorites is the Italic form.
I received the book Simple Calligraphy, Judy Detrick from Blogging For Books. This book is a wonderful book. It has taught me a lot about the Italic form of calligraphy. I still have a lot to learn about all the different forms, but here are a few examples of my practice pages. I also have pages and pages of letters. Learning to form each of the letters stroke by stroke. Judy Detrick in her book gives very detailed instruction for each stroke.
For me having a pen in hand is so soothing, relaxing and enjoyable. It is possible to sit and practice the calligraphy letters over and over. Simple Calligraphy offers exactly what the title says. It is a simple introduction to the lovely art form of italic calligraphy.
If you are interesting in learning more about this beautiful form of writing, I suggest you get yourself a copy of this book. Ms Detrick really makes learning this art form easy, while offering a clear and concise introduction to a very lovely form of writing. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I have.
